Dumpsters are Coming
for Annual Community Clean-Up

Friday & Saturday, Sept. 9 & 10

We will have two types this year, one for "trash" and one for "metal."

The DPW indicates that the metal dumpster is for material like washers & dryers, metal bed frames, metal shelving, microwaves, metal tables, metal filing cabinets but not anything that contains liquid i.e., refrigerators (with Freon) and air conditioners (with Freon).

The dumpsters will be delivered between 8 a.m. and noon on Friday, September 9th and removed no earlier than noon on Saturday.

This is a change in the dates previously announced as the county will not be working those days due to budget constraints.

The dumpsters will be located at the south end of Cohasset on Magnolia Avenues as usual.

AOTB Community Picnic

Postponed from late August due to Hurricane Irene

New date: September 24

 3 to 7 p.m.

Music! Monster Water Slide! Moon Bounce!

Beer and Grilling on the Beach!

Old Photos in Your Attic Worth Big Bucks

The AOTB Property Owners Association is throwing another great community picnic on the Magnolia Ave. beach Saturday, August 27, from 3 to 7 pm.

water slide for the kids

A DJ with a high-end sound system will preside over dance contests for all ages (with great prizes). A moon bounce will warm up the kids but the country's largest water slide (21-ft. high) will cool off adventurers of all ages. Food and drink in abundance. Teams representing streets in the community will vie for major prizes in volleyball on land and sea -- as will the best AOTB historic photos.

DJ Roland Mills offers music for every age group with a kickin' sound system. Roland's mixing and scratching skills are sure to have everyone up and dancing. Dance contests for every age group bring valuable prizes.

The AOTB History Project is sponsoring a tent and will award prizes to the folks who bring in the best historic photos and artifacts in various categories. For details, click here to see articles by Karen Neale and Pam Duncan on pages 6 and 7 of the July newsletter.

You can purchase AOTB T-shirts and baseball caps at the picnic with new colors and designs, produced under the leadership of Beach Committee chair Roxanne Veal. Let her know what you want. Call Roxanne at 410-268-7220, or stop by her home at 3500 Newport Avenue.

This year's picnic will include a misting tent. The tent offers a cooling water mist that drops the temperature by 25 degrees but does not soak those under it. Great relief -- and fun for all ages.

AOTB is providing a keg of beer for adults and will have the beach grills all fired up. Main course folks (see below) are encouraged to bring hamburgers or hotdogs with buns for 10 people. Covered dish main courses are also welcome.

Every family is asked to bring a dish to be shared based on the first letter of its last name.

  • Last names starting with A through F should bring a main dish.
  • Names starting from G through M should bring a dessert.
  • Those with last names starting with N through S should bring bottled water, soda, and other non-alcoholic drinks.
  • Folks whose last names start with T through Z should bring hors d'oeuvres.

Each family will also be charged $10 for ice, glasses, plates, condiments etc. to offset the cost of the DJ, Moon Bounce, tents, and Water Slide at the event. The association needs to bring these events close to breaking even to insure that we can keep doing them in the future.

AOTB will be providing a porta potty, tables, and some chairs but you are encouraged to bring your own folding chairs. We will have some tents for shade and protection from showers. There is no rain day planned. The party goes on rain or shine.

Please RSVP to marca@gmail.com by September 20th so that we may plan accurately for the size crowd to expect.

Most importantly if you are a party person and would like to help plan games like volley ball tournaments with teams based on the street you live on, dance contests or water balloon toss with real prizes for the winning teams, please contact Marc Apter, Social Committee Chair, 301-904-3690 or marca@gmail.com.
